My daughter has had her betta for 2 years now, same tank for the last year. He's had 9 lives, getting sick then getting better, he's a real fighter. About 2 months ago I noticed that his coloring wasn't as vibrant as it had been and although he was still active, he frequently rested at the bottom before continuing his activities. Last week I noticed that his usually dark blue fins were a light grey color. Since then he's darkened up a bit but not much. A few days ago my 3 year old decided that she wanted to feed him and opened and dumped an entire container of food in his water. It was quickly changed so I'm not sure if this has to do with anything. This morning he looked fine but as the day has been progressing its like his scales are falling off. He has raw red patches all over his body, a large single white dot between his eyes that was not there this morning. His water temp did drop to 68 for a few hours durring the water change but thankfully there was no sign of fur coat. Tonight his fins are practically falling apart, his eyes look really clouded, and he's just sitting at the top next to the heater, not even moving around at all. As I am typing this I see that his fins are litterally falling off, just short strings now. What's wrong with him and how can I fix him?! It would absolutely kill my daughter if anything happened to him and I'm pretty attached too. Any advice would be helpful!

I'll try to remember what was info was needed.

He's the only fish in a 2 gal tank, no new decor, weekly water changes, I've never tested the nitrate or anything else because he's always done so well (but we had problems with ick, consipation, red gills, and the list goes on) with the weekly water changes and my pet guy said that's all that it needs. I just keep the water out overnight to evaporate everything else in a seperate container. He's always loved his water changes too.

Well I would say that loss of color and resting alot and him being 2+ yrs old, he's dying of old age.
But with the other symptoms you've mentioned... I have no idea.

I don't think temp is the problem... but what is the temp in the tank? Sounds like you don't have a heater for it?
Also you want to get yourself a dechlorinator. Yeah leaving water out gets rid of chlorine, but it doesn't get rid of the heavy metals in the water.

My first thought was old age too until this started happening. In the past few hours he's turned almost completely white with only a few patches of blue left, and there's some red spots too. Yes, I do have a heater for the tank but I didn't get it pluged back in after the water change. I didn't even think about metals being in the water, I'll have to get a dechlorinator and hope that helps. Thank you for your response.
