Having always considered myself to be (rather) accurate with predicting when a female livebearer will deliver her fry.... (almost to the nearest 30 minutes )..... I was caught pants down with this latest delivery of my female Guppy......

As a ritual, I go into the fishroom every evening to feed and just chuck in the required amounts of foods into all the tanks.... (my wife feeds them (the fry) in the mornings)......

Occasionally..... I will spend the extra minute in there to do the checking on water conditions and so on and if I notice that the female is ready to deliver...... I'll add some extra plants and spawning mats to provide hiding place for the fry etc. etc......

I watched this specific female for some time..... and in my mind.... she was not even close to delivering....

Tonight however...... I saw that she was particularly thin and pink in the gravid area..... The tank was swarming with fry (at least 3 days old).... So, even without providing the additional hiding space for the fry, she went ahead and had her babies, without eating any of them....

I have learnt something new tonight!!

Same here. I'm usually pretty good at predicting when my livebearers will drop but for Molly's first drop I actually managed to estimate when she would drop to be a week earlier than when she did! I watched her for 7 days saying 'she's squared off, she'll drop tonight' but even though she was squared off, she was squared off for a week before she dropped.
