The worst fish disease?
The worst fish disease doesn’t actually infect fish, just fish keepers. It is called MTS. This stands for "multiple tank syndrome". It’s a torment that most steadfast aquarists will eventually get.
Diagnosis.
An exact diagnosis is hard to define, due to every case being different.
Nevertheless, if we want to get really specific, the term “multiple” means having more than one, so it can be argued that as soon as you have two tanks set up, for any reason, you suffer from MTS. One thing is for certain; 99.9% of cases are terminal (to the bank account).
So how can I tell if I suffer from MTS?
The easiest way to tell if you have MTS is to talk to a non-fish keeping friend and ask for their opinion. Be warned, you may not like the answers you get!
Here is a quick guide to help see if you suffer from MTS
Do you have more then one tank in your house with water in it?
Does anyone you know refer to any room in your house as "The fish room"?
Do you currently have a tank in the house that you are trying to find room for?
Do you have a goal of attempting to put a tank in each room of your house?
Have you ever got a bigger tank so you can merge two tanks together; thus reducing space, but managed to keep at least one of the smaller tanks running?
Have you ever attempted to sneak a tank into the house when someone wasn't looking and pass it off as "it's always been there" or "it just came from another room"?
Do you have more tanks set up then a small LFS in your area?
Have you attempted to twist the words in any of the above questions around in order to answer in the negative?
If you answered yes for 1 of these questions you have MTS, but it's not yet severe.
If you answered yes for 2 or 3 of these questions you have MTS but it's still manageable.
If you have answer yes for 4 to 7 of these questions, you have a severe case of MTS and intervention may be required.
If you answered yes to all questions, there is no cure for you, go out and grab another tank!
