The Waiting Game

Thanks matey, I'll test & dose at 20.00 if nitrites 0 which I assume it will be, then test at 08.00 but will not dose until 20.00 tomorrow eve if it the nitrites are at 0.

Popped down Wyevale after work earlier and ended up spending almost £20 on a few rocks!!!! Sad or what!!!!

Nothing sad about that mate
I had a little nose for blackrounds at Wyevale, but they seemed to be for 'smaller' tanks than yours #STOP PRESS# your phone call has proved you've found some :good:

Hopefully within a week or so your NitrItes will be hitting '0'. but don't be afraid to do a water change if you're not happy with something..keeping a close eye on that PH now that those rocks have gone in.

Terry.

DAY 17

08.15

Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
P.H - 7.6 ppm

20.45

Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
Nitrate - 20 ppm
P.H - 7.6 ppm

Added 6 ml Ammonia @ 20.45
Checked 1 hour later.

Ammonia - 4.0 ppm

DAY 18

08.30

Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
P.H - 7.6

19.00

Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
P.H - 7.6 ppm

Added 6ml of ammonia @ 19.15

From now on I think I will only test the ammonia on the first test in the morning as pretty sure from now on it will read 0 and the 4.0 when I add the ammonia in the eve. Also don't really see the point in testing nitrates every day at the moment so maybe do them every couple of days.

Anyone disagree for any reason?

Tried testing with high PH (for the first time) and if I hold test tube up to daylight I would say it's lighter than 7.4 but if I hold against the white on the card next to PH High then I would say it's 8.0. I've alwys tested on the low and it's been the Disney blue colour. So what does that say? Now confused a little more!!! I've added a pic to help.

19.30

Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
Nitrate - 160 ppm
P.H - 7.6 ppm

Added 5ml of ammonia

Nitrates have rocketed!

It does look more of the 8.0 mark,

I did think getting 7.6 with a vivid blue like that was a little iffy

DAY 20

09.00

Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
Nitrate - 80-160 ppm
P.H - 8.0 ppm

20.00

Nitrite 0 ppm
w00t.gif

Nitrate - 160 ppm
P.H - 8.0 ppm

Added 5 ml ammonia @ 20.15

Ammonia - 2.0 ppm @ 21.30
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm @ 21.30

Looks like I'm almost there (hopefully)

P.H - 8.0 ppm

Added 3.5 ml ammonia (think I may have added a little too much yesterday?) @ 20.05

Ammonia - 2.0 ppm @ 21.15
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm

I'm hoping nitrites will be zero in the morning!!!

DAY 22

08.10

Ammonia - 0 ppm
P.H - 8.0 ppm

11.00

Nitrite - 0 ppm

21.00

DAY 23

09.00

Nitrite - 0.25 ppm
Ammonia - 0 ppm
P.H - 8.0

Nitrite @ 10.00 - 0.25 ppm
Nitrite @ 11.00 - 0 ppm

Added 3.5 ml of ammonia @ 21.00

22.10

Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
Ammonia - 2.0 ppm
P.H - 8.0 ppm

Is that 8.0 PH a problem at all? I'm currently fish in cycling a tank and my PH is starting to reach into high 7's also... i'm not sure what to make of it...

A pH of 8 is not a problem at all when you are doing a fishless cycle like the OP. In fact, a pH of 8-8.2 is ideal. During a fish-in cycle, the pH really depends on your fish. Some fish are sensitive to high pH, but most will adapt.

22.00

Ammonia - 2.0 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
P.H - 8.0 ppm

DAY 26
