the two kind are fish keeper which knows about the fish they keep

or the person that just keeps them for the house and doesnt care it too much

which one are you

Well, we're all browsing fishforums to learn more and more. So I guess we're all the first type :p

I would certainly put myself down as the first - no point keeping fish unless you are really interested in them. You wouldn't buy a dog just because it looked nice in the house if you didn't really want one.

I have to admit to being a novice but am using this forum (as well as other info) to build my knowledge.... and thanks to the help I've had so far am hopefully doing OK.

I would be surprised if anyone kept a fish tank for decorative purposes only for very long. Its too much work to keep it looking really nice.
I wanted a fish tank because I thought it would look nice in the living room. We picked a tank which we thought fitted in really well and then found this forum and did our research.
I really love the fish but I have never bought any animal without researching it first.

That was a blunt question.

I can tell you 99% of all of us are in the first group.
The other 1% got the tank/fish from a friend, and dont care about it.

^^^ i got my first tank/fish from my gf... and i care very much about it :p :)

I'm not saying all people are like that. You generally seem to feel more...erm....Pull twords something you've spent alot of time money and energy on.....

i dont really fit into either category i'm afraid. i bought my tanks for the house rather than for the fish. basically i wanted 3 planted tanks to give each room an eye catching feature. the plants are the priority and the fish are handy fertalisers and algae eaters.

i do care for their welfare though, obviously. i think theyre happy enough in there

i was just buggin ya ;) i've definitely spent a lot of time and money on my fish...... oops

I like cats but I'm alergic to them and same with dogs (like them English Bulldogs) so that is why I have fish and snakes. Also, fish don't bother the neighbors, nor do they try to trip you up. And unlike a house full of cats the Humane Society won't come a knocking. As for keeping fish tanks decorative for the home, it's only fun until it turns out to be work.

Say Basia you wouldn't happen to be the Czech pop diva, who hasn't had her own album out since 1994 (I suppose perfection takes time)?

Hi everyone

I was the second, but after loosing 5 coldwater fish in 2 weeks, 2 pearlscales, 1 blackmoor, 1 goldfish and 1 yellow goldfish.

I am now definately the first, I threw my little perspex tank out, bought a decent sized tropical tank, did all the neccessary cycling, research the fish I liked whilst it was cycling and got a few of the more hardy ones to see how I got on, everything seems to be fine, but I am keeping a close eye on it.

Hmmmm

But now we have them I have b'come addicted - can't stop watching them and trying 2 learn more!

I deffo care, I think fish r lovely - far more than decoration 2 the home. :D
