Ok my blubber ball of a severum is a right moody thing it’s currently on day 3 of no food , it’s refusing to eat any flake or pellet and just side eyeing me , it’s fat so I’m not worried and it will eat anything other than fish food , eats prawns , chicken , peas , it would eat a full roast dinner just not it’s food , well guess what MF I’m your god and you will kneel , what’s a safe time before this thing beats me and I have to feed it what it wants ? I’m guessing at least a week , and I know this is commonish behaviour with oscars being silky puppies but do severum a share this annoying spoilt trait?

All fish can go on hunger strikes if they are fed certain types of food and then get a sudden change in diet. This is why it's a good ide to vary their diet as much as possible.

If the fish are well fed and in good condition, they can go for weeks or even months without food. Normally you give them about a week and if they don't eat, then give them something they do eat. Then try the new foods for another week and see if it eats them.

Having other fishes in the tank that eat the new food will often encourage the stubborn fish to eat some new food.
