I just heard on the radio that some women tried to clean her sons fish tank out, she stuck her hand in the tank to pull the fish out (?) and they attacked her. Because, tada, they were Piranhas! She thought they were just well fed goldfish. She only managed to get them off by banging them against something, which I would imagine really tore up her hand since people have been able to use P's jaws as scissors....

Makes you wonder though, I mean, damn, confusing a piranha with a goldfish...

Sounds like a fake story to me, I doubt anybody could be that stupid.

A man in America died doing a water change on his fish tank this year. :dunno: Maybe some people just are....

That dying when doing water changes thing sounds like how I felt before I set up a system of hoses to drain & fill my tanks. Try changing out 200+ gallons a week with 5 gallon buckets.

Yeah... I mean, if the son wanted to get PIRANHAS he would have (hopefully) told or asked his parents first....

Funny story but most probably exaggerated or made up. :)

LOL Tolak! I actually meant he really and truely died. Pronounced dead!

He was increasing the force on the glass as he leant in, glass shattered, severed an artery in his arm and by the time he arrived at the hospital he died from massive blood loss. :X Atleast he died doing something he loved i guess....

Well i dunno about you guys but when i do my once a 2month total tank clean on my 56gal(somtimes water changes and sand cleaning session aern't enough), it can be a bit of an expedition into the unknown :D

The severed artery may be a quicker death. During water changes last night, a heater had come un-suctioned from the back of the tank. I was pushing it pretty hard to get it to stick. This morning I hear about the guy leaning, shattering, & severing. I thought I was saving my back ditching the buckets, only to learn I'm risking life & limb. :p

Did all the downstairs tanks last night, 200 gallons out, 200 in. What was I thinking trying to do it with buckets a year ago.

Actualy I think fish-keeping is quite a dangerous hobby :p - I know of many people who have been eloctrocuted or cut and then there's those who accidentaly get stung or bitten by their fish...

I don't understand why lfs don't sell these http://www.sordselectric.com/Merchant2/mer...referrer=google

My fish room is set up with gfi outlets. Under the tank stands looks like a nightmare with all the wires, but the gfi outlets make it perfectly safe. I've seen gfi power strips at the hardware store. You would think they would push them with new tank setups, just to prevent liability issues.

Yeah it was pretty dumb/slow of her, even if you have no knolege of fish keeping, to grab a fish and pick it up to take it out of a tank goes against plain old common sense- she must have an IQ of 70  !

to be honest, fish actually scare the crap out of me when out of the water, them moving etc. feels soo weird, its like a muscular hand butt a fish lol
so i dont go swishing my hand rund the tank with any fish, i may with a net but again i'd never 'grab' one.

sounds to me she deserved it, and as it was a piranha it defended itself. more people should house them so when stupid mums come in with the bleech and scrubbing brush they know to keep clear!!
