what have you really spent on your setup. all in. Tank, fish, plants, equip, media, accessories, decor, meds, and anything else. I bet youll be shocked. Im at 700 and counting........

ALSO...post your cost saving tips.

Mine is - i was gonna spend £30+ on aquarium sand, till i saw in a post i can use Argos playsand, 30kg for £4.98. Ta for that.

The receipts I have add up to about 400, and I would add another 200 for those items not accounted for in the receipts, so around 600.

Tips: go to garage sales and thrift stores to look for various usable items, and talk to relatives about unwanted tanks and whatnot, I saved around 150 that way.

There was another thread like this before, but I can't recall where it is...

There's no telling. Let's call it $10 startup cost for each 1 gallon, $25 for the 2.5 gallons, $50 for each 10 gallon, $150 for the 29 gallon and stand, $500 for the 80 gallon and stand... that's $1045 for the tanks, filters, and lights alone.

Then $80 for my 20 gallon betta juvie tank, and $35 for another 10 gallon growout tank for the Betta albimarginata.

As a rough estimate, let's say I've spent around $150 on decorations for all these tanks.

Then the fish... for the currently living fish, I have spent about $400.

Counting various odds and ends, I'd say the actual cost would easily be over $2000.

Oh brother, I can't count that high. Easily $600 in tanks, probably the same in filters & heaters. Plenty of those were bought used. A couple hundred in lumber & supplies for racks, probably the same for air pumps & various electrical supplies. Toss in assorted things I'm sure I forgot, it's around $2,000. I can't remember spending more than $10 for any fish, that & water are my cheapest expenses. Electric to run it all sets me back $50 per month last time I checked.

$1000 plus and I am only 16, lots of fish in all my years, only 3 tanks. My tips is family and garagesales and what not. Also look for sales at pet stores.

Please don't make me add it all up! I run 8 tanks and yes I got all my tanks cheap/free but I have had to buy hoods, lights, filters( have 2 per tank), sand ( use black moon sand at $20 per bag) and other needed or not so needed fish stuff. You all so have to fig in food, power and water cost.

For my 30 gallon: tank $60, stand $50, hood&filter $75, test kit $20, 50 lb. bag of fine gravel $10, heater $10, fish $40, driftwood $7, plants $20, food $10, meds $50, decor $15. Total: $367

For my 6 gallon: tank, hood, and filter as a set $60; heater $5; decor $30, fish $3, driftwood $7, leftover gravel. Total $105

For the 55 gallon: tank $90, that's it so far. I need to build the stand and buy a table saw (which my hubby is really looking forward to).

impossible for me to add this up, but on just my current tank im like...1500 dollars. I would estimate 4000+ dollars over the last 5 years or so, maybe more

A fair bit, and they're only 1.5 gal betta tanks! For each tank, here's the set-up cost.

Acrylic tanks: $15.
Heater: $25.
Decor: $20.
Fish: $10-$15.

Seeing the look on your mothers' face when she finds out you spent $70 on one 2 inch fish: priceless. :p

out of all of you i got the lowest price

109.60$$$$$$

this is for two tanks and everything i need (sand filter plants)

its because i work where i buy :D so i get big discounts!

hi

thanks to a very kind person on here i managed to get my 3ft 20 gal tank with hood, light and filter for £50 (second - possibly third hand lol)

i spent about £70 last weekend getting gravel, heater, water treatment, test kits, rubber mats for underneath, buckets, syphon, thermometer and ammonia.

will see what this weekend brings as i'm hoping to get some decorations.

my fish shouldn't be too expensive as i just want to start easy with some guppies once cycled and then once the tank has settled for a few months some neons.

so i dont think i've done too badly so far lol

love ales xx
