my sisters friend from work just brought over a vt maleon saturday. he was thier room mates fish, but after having him for a month and a half they decided they didnt want him any more. they gave me his tank (one of those 1 gallon triangel things), and a hardly touched jar of food. he took the move very well, and appears to be very healthy aside from two little things........ he has a small hole in the center of his tail, and one of his ventrals will (when he holds them up to his body usually) run up along his belly for anout 1 cm then turn straight upward. what could cause these and how should i treat him or is there nothing to worry about?? any who forum this is marco.........

I usually treat mine with sparkly clean conditioned water and the slightest pinch of aquarium salt.....good luck with him he looks lovely :good:

He's beautiful! How lucky are you to have one just given to you!!

Not sure about the ventral fin... it could have been from neglect from the store... sometimes, there is so little water in their cups... they have no choice but to stick close to the bottom of the cup - and they can't stretch out their fins normally.

As for the hole, keeping his water clean is very important - and I think I've heard adding a bit of salt (not table salt - aquarium salt) could help (disolved in a cup of tank water.) If it gets worse or shows signs of fungas... you may be to treat with an antibiotic. Just keep an eye on it. Hopefully, it will heal.

thanks everyone. hes getting a water change sometme tonight so i'll have to mix up a bit of salt to put in his tank.
