I have found black fish fry in my fish tank. I don't know who's it is. I have 4 male and female tiger, two jet black female balloon mollies, a pleco, a female sunset platy, a female red wag, and a male Micky mouse platy. I can't see who the parent is. 3 months ago my female Micky mouse platy (who sadly died yesterday before I spotted the fry) had about 40 yellowish orange fry. Could it be her that had the fry before she died? If so howcome the fry are completely black while she was yellow?

It was most likely the mollies. When I bred balloon mollies my fry were also black.

Ya but both my balloon mollies were females

How long have you had the mollies?

My money is on the mollies. Are you sure you have two females?

Mollies, like all livebearers, can store 'packets' of sperm for around six months, so the fry could be a molly, even if you have no males mollies in the tank.

Especially if you just got the mollies. It happened to me. Both alloon mollies were females, but thy still ad fry.

It'll be them then.

until this batch are sexually mature......

Ya the problem is that I only found one fry swimming around the tank. It was the only one I could rescue. The rest must have gotten eaten.
