I'm still confused on how length effects epic-ness.

Example: I could play a D minor scale for 2 hours, record it and it would be the winning song.

Right now I think Machine Head's song "Halo" is pretty epic.

Length has nothing to do with epicness, I just thought it'd be kinda fun to find the longest songs out there.

You guys are all wrong, these are the most epic songs ( I base this on these particular song's awesomeness factor, not length, although most of these songs are quite long)

1) Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno
2) Sunn O))) - Bathory Erzsebet
3) Therion - Symphony of the Dead
4) Opeth - The Grand Conjuration
5) Bathory's album Blood Fire Death taken as a whole is pretty damn epic

Keep in mind that list is all composed of all metal, because it's unique quality of making awesome epic music I've been meaning to listen to more "darker" classical composers, but I haven't come around to getting their music yet. I wanted to put down Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (quasi una fantasia, i think it's really called) but that is such a cliche answer, and I hate cliches

Wagner's Ring Cycle: about 15 hours and has to be spread over four days for the performance.

Edge of Sanity's song "Crimson" is really epic. Still haven't gotten all the way through it. Got through 20 minutes, got another 20 to go.

Ulver's album Bergtatt - Et eeventyr i 5 capitler is pretty epic too.

I agree with CR on Sunn O))), Iced Earth and Opeth. Haven't heard the other two yet. He has to show me them.
