surely this thread should be titled "The minority, planted tank nerds" because thats what it feels like sometimes, especially trying to explain to someone what your hobby is, and they look at you all funny......eh what.....you get excited by fish tanks

I'm pretty sure we've all been there. My missus won't even discuss fish or plants with me, and she hasn't got the slghtest intrest in pressurized co2. I can't figure out what's wrong with her.

hehe......yeah and then it gets worse........you try and explain......"well its not just fishtanks" its "fishtanks with plants in them"..........

i know the feeling mate. just about everyone i know thinks i'm insane spending so much time on a fish tank.

who cares, i'm happy.

hopefully my PFK reader visit and georges articles he'll be putting together will have an impact on the hobby in the UK. i'm not expecting miracles but hopefully lfs employees will read it and at least know what were talking about on the EI and co2 front.

there are loads of stores around here that sell ferts, decent substrate co2 kits etc.. sorry guys, you'll all have to move down here. lol
none of them have decent plants though. in a plant tank with 50 in you may find 2 or 3 good ones i suppose the problem is keeping them looking good. no fish store is going to fertalise, add co2 etc to their stock tanks so the plants will never look as they should.

Have you ever noticed how the "non-nerdy type" will get that glazed-over look on their eyes when you try to explain why your plants are so green and lively? They just kind of nod and say um huh

I've had to stop myself a few times from going in to a scientific rant with my step-brother. He's not stupid, just a little slow.....(I think)

My favorite is the glassy look accompanied with the occasional nod and "Uh-huh". You know they have completely tuned you out then and you are just saying "Blah, blah blah blah blah..."

I had a great time (note irony) trying to explain to my family what I do. My sisters are clueless, but my mother got it, as soon as I told her I was "gardening", I just "garden" under water.
