name your favorite fish. i need some ideas for my new tank. anything thats lively or just interesting or nice to look at, name what u love.

i have 4 platies and 3 cories and im going to a 46 gallon, so i have room for lots.

question though.... would puffers be to agressive for a community tank?

I love my Dwarf Gouramis.

They are a real nice colour (i have both the normal one and the Flame Red). You can have maybe 3 in there. I'd also add another few more cories. And, yes, puffers are real aggressive. They may be small (the dwarf ones) but they pack a nip!

whyo nly 3 gouramis?

They are slightly territorial. They are also labyrinth fish, and are related to bettas. The difference is, bettas will fight continously. Gouramis will divide the territory so that each fella gets a piece. If there are too many, they cant divide, so they'll fight. Also, if you get more than 1, every once in a while they will nip a bit, nothing to worry about.

My otos are the most fun to watch since they interact with each other so often. The puffers are great too when they're not begging for food (little pigs  )

:kana: I think bloodfin tetras are a very underrated fish. They are very hardy,
lively, and nice looking. Their fins may appear a bit pale in the tank at the fish shop,
but once settled in a nice community tank and taken care of, their fins will usually be a nice red. They mainly cruise around at the upper levels of the tank.

I actually don't have any preferences whatsoever. I like pretty much any fish that I can afford to keep.

However, if I had to pick, I'd pick my bettas simply because of their colors and their ability to live in small tanks.

I initially purchased 6 giant danios to help cycle my tank, but these hardy fish are extremely active and seem to play an ongoing game of tag.

The danios are so lively that my two keyhole cichlids now join in the fun and school and play with the danios. Way cool!!

Definately go for the loaches, of any kind....well khulis are boring little snots, but clowns, yo-yo's and such.....great entertainment! :D

They maybe common and also you need around 8 - 10 of them, but, Tiger Barbs are an endless source of entertainment. They are like the pigeons of the fish world. Stupid and hungry. Mine jump for the food if i tease them a bit. :S

Another vote for loaches... I can't see how someone can't love them.

I have 3 dwarf puffers in my tank, and although aggressive, they don't do any actual damage, just kind of chase eachother around, and occasionally another fish... I'd say if you slightly understock you could get some puffers, IMO they're well worth it. Hatchets are also cool, but make sure to quarrantine them, they have a rep. for bringing ich into a tank (just happened to me this past week).

About a year ago, I had 3 bumble-bee gobies... when I bought them I wasn't told they were brackish water fish. They actually did very well, and eventually could be handfed. They looked cool and had a big personality too... but since they're brackish I'd think twice about getting them again... but it's always a possibility.
