Hi all, here's a photo of my tank in set up mode, I just thought you might like to see....

Current contents sand, 4 live plants- I know no details, just went to my supplier and said gimme 4 REAL easy ones, and a large dramatic piece of bogwood full of inviting holes!!

Now has a second, smaller bit of bogwood in and a second themometer on the outside- I worry a lot!

 what fish are you planning to put in the tank ?

I'm no plant expert, but that fine plant on the left hand side (can't remember what it's called) tends to break down and rot if the lighting isn't good and all the other lovely things plants require to thrive. I've never ever had success with it :/

Are you going to add a background to your tank ?

It's rotting is more down to water circulation. Where you have them placed they should get blown about enough not to rot. I just wouldnt suggest adding any other plants for the moment.

You might want to add a jewel reflector to the tank to increase the lighting, they are a max of about £5 for the Rekord 60.

My only other thought is that some plants get throttled by densly compacted sand, so maybe some bits of gravel around the roots of the plants to break up the sand a bit. However, if you have already mixed gravel, which is what that white stuff may well be, than your certainly on the way :)

I actually think the "white" we can see in the sand, are in fact trapped air bubbles.
Remember that sand requires regular "raking" (I do mine once a week with a chopstick) to keep it from compacting and creating dangerous gas build-ups and pockets.

Wondered a lot about them. Just had a dig around.

Hoping the set up will house about 5 corys, 3-4 golden eyed dwarf cichlids one male 3 females, maybe 10 tetras and possibly a plec, but only if I can identify one that will not grow HUMONGOUS!

Need to think about a back up tank in case the cichlids decide they want to breed and be nasty to tank mates.

what size is the tank (dimensions and gallons)??

from the pic is doesn't look large enough to house all of these fish.
