Okay, we need a list of pet shops--the ones that are known to sell dyed fish  and the ones that are known not to :) . Here's a couple:

:) PetSmart (does NOT sell dyed fish)

 Meijers (chain store that does)

The only one I've been in that I've seen dyed fish is....

Animal Kingdom 2980 N Milwaukee Ave. Chicago, IL 60618

The last time I was there, they had dyed parrots and Honey Gouramis dyed blue.

I don't purchase anything, I just stop in once in a while to point out all the sick and dead fish to the 2 employees in the fish section. :grr:

There is this store right out of Lexington Kentucky. It has painted glassfish. I was too young to know about dyed fish, and I wondered how they got their color. Now I'm in New Jersey and I can't do nothin.

Not 1 store in the Marlton area sells dyed fish. :kana:

Big Al's in Toronto has them.
They also have staff who claim to have bred betta's and yet don't believe they jump.
:dunno:
Unfortunately, they are still the best source for fish and supplies in this area.

big al's sucks, the fact that their bettas are kept in the worst conditions i've ever seen should be reason enough to avoid them

Wow, Every single pet store I have visited in Vermont and New Hampshire sells died fish. :/ It's realy hard not to buy my fish supplies and fish from them from them since its way to expensive for me to order fish offline. There are 5 fish stores within reasonable driving distance, and all sell either dyed white skirt tetras, botia loachs, or glass fish.

I never saw any dyed fish there when I was living in Toronto... However I did see some in PetsMart. (Dyed Glassfish). that was when I was younger and also didn't know they were dyed.

Well, I was in Big Al's 2 weeks ago and they had Oscars with orangy/red dots in patches all over them, yuck, very gross.

Um... just a quick point here, you have to be VERY careful with things like this. If people who own/work in these shops think you're trying to get people to not shop there you could get sued!! :D

Just a thought!

Very True It has Happened before!!!!!!!

Perhaps an email/PM list then of those who want to keep abreast of this issue? I think I've seen the dyed green glass fish, but can't remember where, and would definitely like to steer clear of any stores that sell these kinds of fish.

Complete PetMart Cincinnati, Ohio sell dyed glass fish. Their tanks are complety bare (no gravel, no plants).

Also Peta.com (People for ethical treatment of animals) is good resource however be careful b/c if you love animals you will see some things and read some things that will deeply disturb you.
