Hey all. I have four GBRs. I've just fed my fish (brine shrimp), and I'm only counting three of my rams. I have two males and two females and both pairs are always together. I have searched every inch of my tank (minus the filter. I can't have an experience like that again), but I still can't find him.

Did a water change on Wednesday because I missed it the Saturday before (very busy weekend), but I have seen the missing ram since then so I know he wasn't siphoned up. Both filter intakes have guards on them and he is too large to fit in there anyway.

The tank covers would keep him from hopping out. I don't have a cat either, so no one has gone fishing.

What do you all think happened?

Also, has anyone ever "misplaced" a fish before?

It really depends on your tank layout, I think. I would check behind and under rocks if possible, and in caves and such. When I was little I had a goldfish that somehow wedged himself under a treasure chest, and it took me a week to figure out where my otto decided his favorite hiding place is... He's got to be there somewhere:)

Look in and under every inch of decor...back in the day when I had my first betta in my 10 gallon I couldn't find him anywhere, turns out he was hiding inside a plastic toy, and he had crammed himself in the very top where I'd originally missed him....if there's kids or other people taking care of your fish that could be a possibility (seriously doubt it). What type of filter do you have? If you have a hob check between the glass and the filter, fish like to hide there from the current, also am very good hiding spot, I'd really check all around your filter...what type of substrate? Could he somehow be hidden in it? I really don't know hope you find him safe and sound :(
