Well i've been drooling over them for ages ready all the posts that people have made and i've decided to get a betta ! :D I was going to get one a 2 months back but ended up with about 20 guppy fry so bought a tank for them instead .

I've read the care sheets and most info i can find on them and i've been snoopin on netty's site to see if any spawns are due soon

I was going to go away and buy the same 35 litre tank i have for the fry is this enough space for him ? I know the filter is a stingray is this to powerful or should i just make a sponge filter for the tank ?

Got a few baby plants i can stick in the tank and can take cutting from live plants in my community tank i will also be transferring media from my community to speed up cycle process tank will be set up and running before i get the betta going to take some time to find the perfect one lol

Should i go with gravel or sand ? I have gravel in main community and sand in the fry and i don't really have any preference lol

Is there anything i'm missing ? and will anyone have any spawns ready to go in the new year ? I want a nice wee cracker preferably a red variation or purple lol

If i've missed anything or anyone has any advice feel free to post :D

Cheers

Welcome to the dark side of the addiction, Kizz - get extra tanks, lol.
You might as well begin as you'll eventually go on...

The tank is a nice size for him dont worry and live plants are great they like to rest and sleep on them.
Stick to live or silk plants, a lot of bettas appreciate a cave as well, I didnt believe they would care until I got one of my boys one, he loves it, he swims through it purposefully all the time.
I always think its a good idea to get some basic meds in such as betta fix, because even if your boy is really healthy if anything strikes suddenly its best to be prepared, more recently Maddie and Netty told me to get some Indian Almond leaf which is a little wonder so I would have some of that lying around too!
Do either cover the inflow with a stocking and deflect the outflow of the filter, or go with the sponge filter.
Im sure you know all about food etc as it says you have researched so good on you and goodluck!

oh and sand vs gravel is your choice although many people go with gravel to avoid constipation and impaction, same reason why Herp keepers sometimes avoid it!

Anyone think of a name ? and i swear he is purple but thos epic's don't do him any justice my cam's crap lol

Even in blurry pics, he's beautiful.
Afraid I'm no help with names - I can never think of any that do mine justice...
From what I can make out, he looks as though he needs a name of great dignity.

Gorgeous fish! Absolutely stunning, I agree with Sy's assessment.

Personally I would use the albino corys in a cycling/newly set up tank because julii are so expensive, but in that tank once it's fully cycled they'd probably be happier if you put all of them in, though maybe not with a sponge filter. There are ways of clogging up a stingray, but I'm not up there on them, sorry... never had one.

Actually the julii's weren't all that expensive lol i paid £20 for the betta 4 female guppies 3 male guppies 2 albino cories and 2 julii's so it works out at £1.67 each :d:D:d:D

I love my lfs ! lol

My bf has all the equipment in his house to make a sponge filter so just waiting on him bringing that down and we're going to test it out . At the moment i've got the flow from the stingray deflecting off the glass and he seems to be ok at the moment .He does swim near the current gets blown about a lil bit but he swims right back into it ! It's like he enjoys it . He does seem to love himself though he keeps flaring when he's at the sides of the tank . Mind you if i was a gorgeous as him i'd probably keep doing that too !

Theres some better pictures of him Here
