I always end up wondering the same thing when reading about not mixing betta's etc. Does this fall into a minimum tank size category or is it just a general no no. I always read the comments and 'rules' and the same thought always enters my mind.....'how does it work in the wild then?'

I presume a tank no matter how large is claimed as one males territory. And that should 2 males be together (even if on their own) in a lets say 200ltr tank would contstantly hunt each other down??

Would there ever be a possible sized tank to keep two males in happily?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find anything. So apologies if it has been already done.

you shouldnt keep 2 males together no matter how big the tank is because when they find each other one is going to get seriuosly injered or killed. the thing is betta splendeds dont live in the wild they have been specially breed for the colours. finnage and the agression alot ot the wild bettas you can keep 2 males together in a reasonably small tank. betta splendeds have been breed to be agressive because in thiland its a sports to fight male bettas.

My opinion would be not to keep two male bettas together whatever the tank size, some may say they have got away with it in a large tank 200 litres plus but it's just pure luck or very placid bettas they have as sooner or later they will end up doing damage to one another. In the wild it is a very different story the area they have to stake territories and swim away from conflict is far far bigger and ever changing with rain fall etc, the same two males may never meet again. Also I personally think bettas do not do well in mixed community tanks with other fish, well the males don't anyway even though they can I find they are far happier with their own space and why would anyone have a 200 litre tank just to keep two male bettas in that may one day end up killing each other? these are my thoughts on the matter :)

Aye, don't be getting carried away people's, I aren't planning on trying to keep two together.

I was just wondering on the logistics of how these fellows work. To be clearer, it always makes me wonder how big would a tank have to be for two males to be able to live happily and get along with no trouble other than the odd territorial squabble?

it would have to be massive because if they found each other once would get seriously hurt or killed like i said they have been breed to kill other males. so the second they find eachother which at some point they will one of them is going to get hurt or killed.
