show me a pic of the best gournamis and your faverite

Why?
My favourite is the pearl gourami, trichogaster leeri.
For pictures, take a look at the pinned threads in this section.
Or click: here, and also: here
Or, here's a google search I made earlier... google search. Ignore the picture of the male dwarf gourami in the middle of the fourth row.
Mind you, there are many more gorgeous gourami species and you have only to do your own google search to see them.
Take for example this lovely licorice, this charming chocolate or this majestic moonlight.

edit: Take a look at (yes, that's right, google it!) ctenopoma acutirostre and some of the other ctenopomas as well.

they are lovly the google one wont work
pm me the whole link i like gournamis and may get 1 wil one be ok on its own

Gouramies vary greatly in temperament (and size for that matter). So it really depends on the species whether it'll be ok alone or not. My s.gouramies live seperately from each other in very different communites (One is with a group of female bettas, the other with tetras and rasboras). On the other hand I have my overgrown mad planted setup that the golden gouramies adore and breed readily in. I wouldn't dream of having them seperated as they all seem very happy together. They don't fight despite all the warnings I'd seen of male/female or male/male issues. But they did grow up from young together in that tank so it really depends. Also single males can become highly aggressive and many species will attack smaller fish and kill them. They will certainly pick on weaker fish.
Research them, know what you are after and work from there. They really are full of character.
Hugs,
P.

That's the full link. Again, the middle of the fourth row is not a pear, it's a dwarf (colisa lalia).

Bettas, have you sorted out your current tank yet?

What size tank were you considering for the gourami? If you can tell me this, I could suggest some that would work without the risk of aggression and that are hardy.

I also want to make it very clear to you that you cannot cycle a tank with gouramies. If you want gouramies in a tank, you need to fishless cycle before you add ANY fish. You can read the link in my signature about fishless cycling to understand more about that if you don't already.

Also, gouramies are not a fish to jump into buying. Like the previous poster said, they can be aggressive, some aren't as hardy as others and many have very specific requirements. A lot also get to a pretty big size and most need quite a large tank. Their tankmates, if any, need to be picked out carefuly and their environment made to suit their temperament.

If there is a partcular gourami you like the look of or are interested in, ask about it here. I know I'll tell you what its requirements are and whether its a good idea or not to try and keep it. I'm sure others would answer any questions as well.

^Nicely said Sylvia. And yes, I will answer any q's where I can. I'm no expert but I do know it's not a good idea to trust your lfs. Not always a fair thing to say as some really are very good and know their stuff, but many do not and only want to sell the fish. Be careful, take your time and you should avoid so many mistakes that various of us have had to endure through naivety or bad advice.
Hugs,
P.
P.S:I hope to put up some pics of my gouramies over the weekend so you can see for yourself what sort of setup they live in. :)

yes getting cycled
i may get a GOURNAMIS when its done

YOU DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR ONE!!! Your current tank is over-stocked. If you add more fish, your fish will start dying - just like your betta did.

If, on the other hand, you were reffering to a different tank, tell us what size it is so we can tell you if you can get any gouramies.

Miss Dib Dabs asked you what else is in it. I would like to know the same thing. If this is your current tank, like I said, nothing else will fit.

bettas people are not telling you not to get fish just to be narky with you, they are telling you for a good reason! You are already overstocked and your tank still isn't cycled properly anyway. All that will happen is that your fish will not be very healthy. You do not need to add anymore fish! If you do it is likely that they will die :(
