My smaller tank has been up and running for over a year. Until a month or so ago, it housed 2 bettas (divided), but one died of a swimbladder problem, and then the other just totally disappeared  I always assumed he died and the amano shrimps in the tank ate him

I then moved a few livebearers into the tank. One guppy died within hours and I removed him. A few days later another guppy died and I only found half of him

I then waited a couple of weeks, and at the weekend I added 2 new guppies, making the stocking 2 platys, 3 guppies and 4 amano shrimp. This morning one of the guppies (the old one, not one of the new ones) has totally disappeared  I have done a water change and moved everything around but there is no trace. He wasn't noticeably ill when I last saw him (think it was the day before yesterday) but my son can't remember if he saw him yesterday when he fed the fish.

I am now concernred as to whether fish are dying and getting eaten (as I first thought) or whether the amano shrimp are actually killing healthy fish?

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
is there a lid to the tank.
Check around the tank and floor area to see if they have jumped out of the tank.
Do you have any pets.

Tank size - 38 litres
Current stock (not counting the missing fish) 2 guppies, 2 platys, 4 amano shrimp
Water stats - will have to test later on and let you know
Yes there is a lid, nothing has jumped out and we have no pets (well only guinea pigs, and they are in their own cage)

I have done a 50% water change as a precaution. Other fish are absolutely fine as far as I can see.

Your tanks abit overstocked.
Plus livebeares really need larger tanks as there very active fish. Usually 10 gallons.
Until we know your water stats we would be guessing as its the first thing to look at when fish are ill.

That's creepy! Are you sure the Betta isn't hiding around somewhere and eating/killing all of the fish?

Whats the filter like, could they be getting sucked up into it?
