I have about 25 molly fry in a plastic breeder contraption with out the devider in. They are only a week and a few days old. One night i was fixing my power filter when the contraption tumbled over and all the fry swam out. lukily i caught them all after alot of searching. Then i woke up this morning and my new female had jumped into the breeder and all the frightened fry were all bunched up in one corner. And i thought the female had eaten most of them but she didnt! and she was probably in there the whole night? i wonder why she never ate any of the fry?

poor little fry......im suprised they dont have white spot now.....

just a little story i wanted to share

:hyper: Wow! That's an amazing story! I can't believe she didn't eat one fry.

 One of my female guppies is just unbelievable. When she was pregnant (I mean she was about to explode!), I moved her to the breeder net for the night and the next morning I found 5 fry at the surface. Sadly, I witnessed her devour one so I was only able to rescue 4 fry. I assumed that she ate a lot more because she looked like she was carrying two dozen or more. :(

Those little floating breeder things are a pain in the backside!! guppy jump out, guppy jump in, in fact the only thing that cant get in or out is the fry, meaning they are trapped and food for anything that gets in.

I cover my breeder with some plastic or anything to hand.

Afterthought: Oh word of warning tho! A guppy may try to jump in and get beached on the cover you put there. This has never been a problem as I use a breeder tank just for mother, fry and breeder trap.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED!

this time with my female molly! and not one was eaten and theyre only a week and three days old!!!! but im still scared to let them go cuz i got big nasty gouramis :X

hello

im a noob to all the fish stuff and was wondering if it if hard to breed guppies?

and how big a tank do u need????

Kell, if guppy breath they breed!

Take a look at the gravid spot, its on their underside near the tail. If its red they are either not pregnant or pregnant with a month or so to got. Once fertilized the grapd spot turns black as the fry grow.

There are plenty of posts on this forum regarding guppy breeding.

thx for that i hope i will be able to breed them soon, i need another tank tho

how big a tank would i need???? and do i need a 2nd tank to remove the parents once there born?

i recomend u have a 10 gal(usually 2 foot long) and u should have a 3 to 1 ratio of females to males (for example if u have 1 male u should have 2 females) U dont have to remove the parents u can just put the female in a breeder net. and she usually wont eat the babys for 12 hours.
