thanks to your advice, for the past few days ive been able to keep the ammonia level in my tank form ever going over .25 ppm thanks to many... MANY water changes (man its rough with a 55 gallon tank XD)

Ive also added more gravel, filter media, plants, and tank ornaments from my brother's mature tanks to help jumpstart the bacteria; and this morning when i tested the water the ammonia had dropped below what it was when i tested last night, i had a barely noticeable amount of nitrites, and the nitrates were near 5 ppm

all of my fish seem happy and healthy :p

It sounds like you may be on your way to a trouble free tank Kadkins. Congratulations and stick with it until things stabilize.

it's startin to look that way :p

the ammonia is staying fairly low and the nitrates are slowly rising, but so are the nitrites. Dont have to do NEARLY as many water changes though, its quite a relief haha

ive got a couple pairs of platies, 2 red females (one seems really young) and 2 male gold ones, and the gold ones wont leave the females alone XD i bet ill have some little ones before too long :p

here's hopin
