I have a 25 gallon tank and bought a texas cichlid unaware that it grows so large. Tank currently has 2 danio,2 head and tail light, 1 convict, 1 texas cichild,
my qustions are:
How fast does it (texas cichlid) grow?
Will it be suitable in my 25g forever or how long?

Texas cichlids are pretty fast growers, depending on its current size I would expect it would need a new tank within months (depends on how big it is now, diet and water conditions etc). I think your best bet would be to rehome it, and buy some more danios and tetras as they like to be in groups.

A 55 gallon will do for a texas cichlid for life, maybe a 40 breeder depending on sex and species.

There is going to be a clash between texas vs convict and ones going to die...If its like my texas cichlid it will win and kill all the other fish as well, and mine was a female!
Male Texas cichlids can get as large as 12 inches and a 55gal is pushing it for just one on itself. Both are renowned for their aggression.
They're very fast growers, as well as convicts are...Neither should be kept in a 25 gal alone or together imo, my convict was 7-8inches.
Texas cichlids flourish from water changes and will grow much quicker. Please try and re home him/her ASAP

Of all the cichlids I have owned I have always found texas to be very slow growers, but what everyone else has said theirs going to be aggression very soon(unless they are different sexes but that a whole different kettle of fish).

Really?Mine went from like 1" to 7" in 6 months.May be wrong though.

I always thought texan cichlids were fast growers, I certainly wouldn't call them slow growers.

it doesnt matter to much, fish all grow at different rates and as youve stated water condition will help drematicaly,,,,you will have to do some very good water changes as cichlids are messy eaters, but either rehome or upgrade the fish tank very soon :good:
if you do take him back to the fish shop<have a go at them for not telling you his max size :good:

yea i think i will just take it back to the pet store and demand an exchange for another fish
thanks everyone for the help. :)
