I am in the process of changing the internal filter in my juwel trigon 190 to an external filter. The tetratec range seem good value for money. My question is should I go for the tetratec 700 or spend a bit extra on the 1200 which is for aquariums upto 500 litres. Would this be too powerful for a 190 litre aquarium? Alternatively, the fluval 406 is for upto 400 litres. Does anyone have any experience of these filters?

I have 2x Tetratec ex700 running on my rio 180 only problem i had was when i first set them up 1 was humming, turned out be tiny chip on the magnet on the impeller. Probably done by myself running it out of water, anyway brought a new impeller and haven't had to touch them since

Iv had a fluval fx5, 406, 405, 305, 205 and U2

I'm now runnin 2 tetratec ex1200's on my Rio 400 (5 foot 450 litre) and they are awesome. Much better than any of the fluvals iv had. And cheaper than the 406. I only paid £89 each for the tetratecs. I also took out the 2 300watt heaters and now run a single 300 watt hydor external heater on my ex1200 and it's awesome. More than capable of heating my tank and dont get any cold spots as tge warm water is constantly pumped around the tank. Plus it means more room in the tank for my fish :)

A single ex1200 will be more than enough for your tank. I even ran a single on Rio 400 for a few weeks before I had the money for the 2nd one and it coped brilliantly.

All I would say is don't use the spray bar it comes with as it reduces flow. I just take the spray bars off and leave the elbow there :)

Also of the power head breaks within 3 years tetratec will send you a new one free of charge :)
