HI , have heard of some people changing round different types of media in their external filters.
Was wondering about removing course carbon pad and pouch and replacing with another bio sponge ?
Or is there anything else anyone would suggest?

Plastic pot scourers are what I usually suggest, very cheap, large surface area, pretty good mechanical filtration too.

I've used cut up drinking straws (just cut them in 0.5 - 1 cm pieces).
