:( I have a five gallon tank, I have been to several LFS and they have all said to me that as it just a five gallon tank keep the fish to minimum eg. not to get big fish. All of them said a schoal of 6/7 danios or neon tetras will be perfectly fine. I also found out that some fish are kept in tanks for months before being sold in LFS and those tanks are small as it is. It is an OK size and there is enough space for them to swim around. How many should I get and what type? I don't want to mix them but I will if you think tis good enough :(

A 5 gallon tank really isn't big enough for super active fish like Danios, and I think it's a bit too small for tetras as well.

If you want something colorful...I would suggest going with 3 Endlers and a few cherry shrimp, but IMO a 5 gallon really isn't suitable for more than one Betta and inverts.

Whats an IMO?

agreed, 5 gallons isn't much (says the girl with a 3 gallon) I would really concider getting a Siamese Fighter (aka Betta) with maybe a lil shrimp or snail :) Bettas have alot of personality and are fun to watch!

one male betta and a shrimp or 2 is best

IMO= in my opinion

IMO means in my opinion :good: .

You must remember that the tanks at the lfs are basically receiving multiple small daily water changes on top of regular large water changes..

Say in one day 3 people buy fish(with water) from a tank, that's a 20% water of the water gone, the tanks are topped up every couple of day effectively meaning these tanks are receiving water changes. Plus, they get normal large water changes weekly, and in a good lfs the water shoul dbe tested weekly to ensure no problems. Trust me, without almost constant water changes, the fish in these tanks would be dead.

I'd get a male betta, definitely..... lots of fun, beautiful to watch, they are very interactive. And I can vouch that danios and tetras wouldn't work.... the tetras are too big and the danios zip all over the tank.... for a small fish, they like lots of zooming room..... :good:
