Hi folks,

I have two tetra tec 1200's one of which is totally leaking rakes of water from somewhere. I noticed it tonight when I opened the door to the tank unit. It seems to be coming from around the seal. Its only a year old, so I took of the seal and cleaned all around it and put it back on and it's still pumping out loads of water. The seal looks fine though, its not perished anywhere and seems to have alot of pressure on it when you close the lid.

Has anyone had any problems with this before, any ideas whats causing the leak or pointers as to where to look? I couldn't see any cracks or anything around the filter and I checked for blockages too.

Cheers Chish

The seal might be twisting when you put the filter together. This would compromise it and allow water to leak out. Try putting some vaseline over the seal before putting the filter back together.

hi colin, cheers for the tip I'll try that tomorrow and see if it works.

Anyone else got ideas? keep em coming

Right, open it up, take the seal off and wipe down the seal area on the lid, and arround the inside of the canister. Clean the seal fully and apply liberal amounts of Vasaline and then re-assemble. Dirt in the seal area or the seal twisting when being assembled often leads to leaks, so a though clean of everything the seal touches in use and assembly along with lub application should get the issue. After that, contact tetra via 'phone for a replacement seal/filter. They have three years warrenty and their service is apparently very good :good: Use the 'phone, as it is far quicker than e-mail ;)

Cheers for the replies guys, I am going to try the vaseline thing tonight, I didn't have any at home (though I wouldn't admit to it if I did lol) so I'll go buy some wearing a mask lol. But I also phoned up tetra UK, they reckon it may be the pump unit not working properlywhich is forcing the water out of the sides of the seal, so they are sending me one Free of charge :good: to see if it works, if not I have to phone them back and they'll try something else. Minted eh.

So we will see what happens.....

Try also the o-rings around the tap adapter as I found they used to leak on mine and you cant tell untill it floods back into the motor head and out the sides!

ok man cheers I'll have a look there too
