Tetra Plantamin Or Pond Platamin?

Ok, thanks, will get some TPN+ then as Id like to actually keep some plants alive this time round :D

Considering you have low light, and fairly heavy stocking, you may get away without adding NO3 & PO4, although there is no point buying this to find they will end up with defficiencies so you will have to pay out again for another fertiliser!

It is always better to add more than not enough though ;)

Are T5's considered low light then? I thought they were supposed to be quite good for plants.

I shall pay for the good stuff and keep my fingers crossed :)

54w/ 105 US gallons = 0.5wpg

Because it is T5 and outputs more lumens per square inch we double it (1WPG) and this is why it is still low light.

Unless you have 2 x 54w T5's?

Yes its two! Its the normal 2 T5's that come as standard in the rio 400

I thought it was low for a tank that size when you just put 54w!!

In that case you will be closer to 2wpg then, so you will need a fert that contains N&P - in which case you might aswell ignore my last few posts from when Andy posted

Well Ive just ordered 500ml of TPN+ from aquaessentials, will let you know how I get on.

Do you think I will need some root tabs as well or shall I see how I get on with just the TPN+, also how long do you recommend the lights are on daily, I usually only have them on 8hrs in other tanks without plants, should I up this with plants?

Stay at 8 hours.

Don't get the root tabs. You can get these if you need them later but as you want to do things cheap as possible see if it will work without first.
