Hi,

today I am experiencing some strange behavior from one of my Flame Tetra. He lies sideways on the bottom of the tank for a while then swims a short distance returning to the same spot and then lies down again?

I have just fed all the fish in the tank and he did eat. The water chemistry and temperature are OK.

Does anyone know why this may be occurring?

Is there anything I can do for the little guy?

Not sounding good i'm afraid they do this when they are dying, does he look bloated, what do you feed the fish.

Nutrafin Flake Food.

He is the smallest and most timid Tetra of the group.

I have caught him and temporarily put him in a small container and added some food.

He is eating.

I think he may be under nourished and not getting his fair share of food.

I took a while to catch him. As soon as I put the net in the tank he started swimming for his life.

I hope I can save him.

Try him on some shelled peas and daphnia, you are going to have to change there diet, or they will be prone to constipation and swim bladder problems with to many dried foods, need some frozen foods in there diet of bloodworms, brimestrimp, daphnia, then veg in peas, broc, cucumba, etc and algae tablets, a good varied diet is as important as good water quality.

I feed my Oto's algae wafers and my Cory's sinking pellets so there are different foods in available on the tank.

I didn't realize that Tetra would eat things like vegetables.

I thought that they were surface feeders and would only eat flake and insects/worms.

Unfortunately we don't have a freezer so I can't feed them frozen foods. I could get the dried varieties of things like bloodworm. Would that be an option?

Yes they will nibble on the veg mush the peas up well and they will eat them, soak algae tablet to soft then squish inbetween fingers so they can ge some as well.

Hi,

I had a similar problem right before i noticed ick on a fish of mine. The danios were doing that adn one guppy kept slamming into the log on the bottom of the tank. Since medicating one fish died but the guppy is not doing that anymore. The danios were swimming sideways and hitting the bottom it sounds as if maybe it is a similar thing you are experieinceing. I cannot say what is wrong with your fish only that my experiences are
