hi all.

well just no wi thought i should test my tap water.

the readings are

ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 0
ph - 7.0

are these good as i was told they was??

if they are good should i still kepp addind water conditioner???

Yes, they are good.

Yes, keep adding conditioner, as a water conditioner will remove chlorine and other harmful elements from the water.

A water conditioner does not treat for ammonia (dose not remove ammonia from the water) nitrite or nitrate.

You can't get tap reading any better then that! Like FHM said you use conditioner for totally different things.

hi fathead minow. thanks for the reply

ok i got to get some extra conditoner 2moz anyway, well for a long time now 1 thing have gone right for me :) must be good old welsh waters :)

also can u buy some sort of product to get ammonia down incase it ever when a little higher or shall i keep to my free option and do a 50% water change.

i usualy do a 50% water change about 3 hours after feeding, i got discus fish and they like they clean water lol

When it comes to ammonia, your best bet is always a water change, not a chemical treatment. Some of the better quality conditioners, like Prime, will neutralize small amounts of ammonia for a day or two but the only way to remove it is still the water change. If you have discus, you have signed up for very frequent water changes, whether or not you recognized it when you got them.

hiya oldman47

once i 1st bought them 3 days ago. i didnt realy realise untill a few questions on here and a good internet search.

but to be honest i dont mind doin a water change every day, i do a 50% change every time inc a gravel clean with my pump. its only a matter od 45 mins a day and they need they clean water. just like us TBH :)

as i said above i feed them around 6pm every day and then ill do a water change bout 9 - 9.30PM as i allow the a good 3 hours to feed propely, as i heared a discus may eat some the lose intrest in 2-5 mins but in the 3 hours they do tend to look for food in the tank,

i think they should be all ok with a good API reading and water changed every 24 hours,

i also prefer to do water changed than put chemicals in the water, i personally think its safer for them.

thank you all for the help once again :) (very good forum this)
many thanks
shane
