Test Kits

use API for basics (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, high range pH) and salifert for advanced (calcium, magnesium, alkalinity). Not sure about phosphates though.

Thanks just bought this one.

Your advice really helped me. This API test has lots of test and u cant compare the price to others, its bargain.
Also good thing for beginner all in one,

Thank you

API isnt really accurate though, thats why i only recommed it for basics.

Agreed, API great for the basics and salifert for the calc/alk/mg/PO4. Seachem also makes a good high-end test kit for the more advanced chemicals.

but testing with seachem is a pain, my lfs uses seachem for some of there test.... that big box isnt for looks, there are lots of stuff in there and all sorts of chemicals which you mix and match etc, it really is a chemistry set lol.

Good Evening,

my refractometer has arrived but I got confused,
I was looking for 1.022-1.026 salinity but in there scale looks like in % (0 - 70%)
how many percent should be in a good salt water?

Thank you.

:-( I am confused, I have a bag of Ocean salt that said is good 55 Gal I already used around half of it
and my refractometer shows 10% now only, please help...

on the refractometer scale I see on the left side 20 C (looks like degrees) % from 0 - 70
and right scale says Alcohol from 0-80.

So how much should be for a good water? 32%?

P.S. I have 28 Gal tank

Ok,

I think I may have the answer but I'm not 100% on this. My refractometer has a scale on the left hand side of 1.000 - 1.070. The right hand side is 0-100%. At a guess, I would say that your refractometer dispenses with the 1.0 "prefix" and so just uses the last two digits. If this is the case, aim for 24-26 on the scale of 0-70 and 32% on the right.

Try this and then get your LFS to test the water for you to verify. Do not add any fish or inverts until you can confirm that your SG level is correct and that is how your refractometer is scaled. It may also be worth asking them to calibrate your refractometer while you are there.

Just a thought anyway. Hope it helps :good:

Everything is much easier, they just sent me a wrong one :)))))))))

I have already started curing beautiful Fuji rocks.
Thank you guys for your help
