Ten Footer

 :hey: BUY IT ;)

Go for a couple of juvenile Arrowana, then you can watch em grow. Might get a Tiger shovelnose in there as well

So uhhh... whats a fluidised bed?

yeh, What is a fluidised bed?

Fuidised beds are the cutting edge of biological filtration technology. They use sand as a media and are similar to a canister filter in looks but work on a totally different principle. The water is pushed in from the bottom of the filter causing the sand to become suspended in the water column so every surface of the media is exposed and bacteria can form all all sides, the bacteria can also convert ammonia/nitrite faster due to the oxygen rich enviroment. The only problem with these filters is that they really need to be used in conjuction with a de nitrifier and the return run through a trickle tower as they are so effective that the nitrates build up rapidly and the bacteria use up a huge ammount of the available oxygen.

I am not sure how hugh I wil go yet. Probably in the neighborhood of a couple grand.

This tank won't generate interest for too many beyond the "I wish" category simply due to the sheer size of it. I may yet decide it is to big for me. I was looking for a ten footer more in the 300-400 gallon range, but bigger is better. :D

Pros; I have the perfect location for it. House is on a concrete slab. Between all my tanks I nearly have enough live rock and sand,( IT will be Saltwater), to fill it. It comes with a 6' skimmer!!!! The diversity I could have. It will be a built in room divider, so the stand isn't a real big issue. I would win nearly any "Yeah, I have a fish tank too" contest.

Cons; Lighting. At first glance it looks like the 4000-5000 watt range. Though I might be able to get away with staggering four of five 400 watt halides across the front for extreme light lovers and round it off with VHO's towards the back. Water movement will be an issue also. I am aready considering a huge surge device to insure good flow. Return size on a tank this size could easily be two inches in diameter! The worst of all will be the power bill. I would expect a jump of a hundred or so dollars a month over what I have now.

I keep regretting we ever moved from Illinois :(
Good luck with the auction, and if you win, according to TFF law, you will have to post pictures of it right away for us to goggle at. :D
