In the past week or so I have noticed that when I wake up in the morning and turn on my fish tank light that many if not all of my fish look pale in color. Especially my green tiger barbs. They usually are a dark emerald green color but in the mornings they are like a pale turquoise. Then also my tiger angel fish lacks color. Usually he has dark brown stripes and a red stripe in his eye, both of which are faded in the morning. And all of my fish are barely floating along the bottom.

I asked the lady at the petstore what she thought it might be and she said her salt water fish go pale in color when the light is off because they are sleeping. Just wanting to confirm that this is indeed what it is.

I have checked the balances in my tank several times and every time everything is normal.

Any ideas?

Its normal they do go pale when sleeping, it quite common to see them pale when you first put the tank light on.
If they were still pale for hours something would be wrong.

same for me, most of the time its when you which your light off and then suddenly on the fishs colour will seem fadded.

Thanks alot! Her reasoning sounded pretty good I just wasn't sure if that was also the case with mine. Now it's all figured out! :]

Mine also go pale right before I turn the light off...
I turn the light on and off about the same time every day and feed them around the same time every day.
Usually right when I'm going to turn the light off for the night they are just starting to fade and lose color.
I guess they just get used to when they have a bedtime!!

fish have different colours for day and night. At night they tend to fade and when you turn the lights on suddenly they are pretty much faded.
It is best to turn the room lights on or open the curtains about 15-20 minutes before turning the tank lights on. Then the fish don't get stressed from going from the dark to complete light in a second.
Imagine someone shining a torchlight on your eyes during the middle of the night, not nice and the fish don't have eyelids to protect their eyes.
