I usually keep my tanks temperature at 24.

What with it getting warmer - should I be keeping my heater on all year round? At the moment it's set on 16, which is its lowest.

I'm basically wondering if I should leave it on this or start turning it off as the outside gets warmer.

well, i can't answer you're question but maybe i can give you some input..

I do not even have a heater in my tank.. its at the temp it's supposed to be at and it STAYS at that temp. lol...

No, you don't need to switch it off; a heater only comes on when the water falls BELOW the temperature you've set it to.

yup, exactly

your heater should have a thermostat so will turn itself off, just leave it be otherwise there's a danger the temp will drop at night or one day will be inexplicably cold and you'll forget to turn it back on.

Ah, I didn't realise it did that. Thanks! I was worried about boiling the poor things or something but that's alright then!

how the hell does this work?

if the room temp is stable the tank temp will be too. if for example you have a central heating/air con system set to a certain temp 24hrs a day then your tank temp will stay stable.

however a lot of people don't realise that they're tank temp is stable when they're at home and awake, if the heating goes off at night the tank temp can plummet and you won't realise if the heating comes back on again before you wake up.
