hi everyone just got a secondhand jewelvision 180 set it up on monday going through the first stages think im doing ok but i cant get the temp down it is running on 32c at the moment.it came with a juwel 200w heater i have fiddled with the blue and green controll on top but temp still wont come down. any suggestions should i get rid of it, if so what would be a decent heater to get thanks booker.

give it time to cool, a massive body of water can retain heat for a long time, turn down the heater and wait a few days before taking further action.

thanks for that i will check when i get home from work in morning and again on friday cheers

Like truck said, turn down the heater a little and give it a couple of days for the temperature to lower.

Which country you in?

Its very rare for heaters to heat the water to the temp actually set on the dial. For example, if you set your heater to 26 degrees, its more likely to be 25-27 so just adjust the setting according. The numbers on the dial are usually pointless lol, You'll be much better judging the setting by a thermometer in the tank, remember if you change the heater settings to give it a day or 2 to correctly adjust itself as truck said large amounts of water can take a while to change, especially cooling down which takes longer than heating up.

I have a 110L Juwel tank, which comes with a 100W heater. I have the heater on 32°C but my thermometer the other side of the tank only reads 29°C. It also takes hours for the water to change even a degree, as you have to think how small the heater is in comparison with the volume of water. The heater only has so much surface area, and that is a lot of water to heat.

I would have thought that the larger your tank is, the better it retains heat (smaller surface area to volume ratio), so yours might take about 70% more time to cool than mine would.

hi its now 3 days later the temp dial on the juwel 200w is turned as far to the minus as possible but my 2 thermometers still read 30 degrees i think i should get a new heater ?

I am going to agree with you Footballadele. After a few hours, if the temperature is staying high, the heater has stuck on. Try pulling the plug on it and wait a few hours. I would bet you will see the temperature drop a few degrees in that time.

Hello, I had a simillar problem with a brand new heater. It turns out that the themostat in the heater was faulty, I returned it to the company and they sent me a new one, no further problems. Morale of the story is you probably need a new heater.

I'd agree with oldman, first try unplugging the heater and leave it off for a while. Keep an eye on the temp, if it still doesnt drop then you can rule out a faulty heater.

Whats your room temperature? A tank wont drop below room temperature so if the room is warm, or the tank is near a radiator then this may be holding the temperature high.

Also as truck said, how long do you have your tanks lights on for a day? tank lights will gradually heat the water.
