what should the temprecher be in the tank, mine is usually 78 farenheit sometimes rising to 81...
is this good bad?
if bad how do i adjust it?

It depends what fish you have in there. But 81F should be ok, that is what mine stays at in the summer.

For many fish we keep in our tanks, 81F is about the maximum that can be tolerated. There are a few that can go higher but not many. Most are better off at 75F to 78F than at numbers over 80.
What fish do you have in your tank and what heater are you using to control temperatures?

Is there an light indicator for when its on? If the light isn't of your house is temperature is causing the temp of the tank to rise no the heater.

there is no indicator, are u saying the light for the tank is causing this?

The water temperature is controlled by two separate things. It will seldom be much cooler than the air temperature, even though evaporation cools it a little. The other thing is the heater, which can bring the temperature higher than the air temperature. The setting on most heaters is controlled by a small knob located on the top of the heater. You turn it left or right to change the heater setting. Some heaters have a scale to tell you the temperature setting while others make you experiment with turning the knob and waiting for the tank temperature to respond. If you are not sure the heater is causing the temperature that you are measuring, try unplugging the heater for a day or two. If the tank cools down, it is the heater bringing the temperature up.
