Hi I was wondering if it's normal to have the heater scale saying a higher heat than the thermometer reads
I just got a new 150w branded heater, heater say 26c and thermometer says 22c

Or is it faulty

if the heater is positioned vertically the rising warm water around the heater will trick it into thinking the whole tank is that temp. Usually people place the heater in a 45° direction or say 2 o'clock.

I agree with matt.

Keep in mind the water at the top is warmer than the water at the bottom.

That is quite a bit to be off by...do you have any other thermometers to test this with?

You could test different waters with diff thermometers. If not I would consider getting a $1.50 one at wal mart to test and see what the problem is. It shouldn't be that far off though.

That temp difference can make a fish live of die in hotter or colder temps. I would look further into this issue.

Good luck!

Hmm you can see the position of the heater here

I've moved the Thermometer closer to the heater just to see if it picks up, I always thought you put the thermometer to the Opposite side

My 200w heater in my 180lts says 24 and thermometer says about 22 ish

It's the same one I use in the big tank and that is just -1 out and it's at the opposite side so I no it works

Maybe it's just the scale on the other heater ?

The heater thermostat is not meant to be a thermometer. Thermostats are never exact. I use a number of heaters that have a simple +/- dial and don't say anything about temp. I've always kept my heaters vertical and never had an issue. As long as you have proper circulation there should not be a difference.

Ok so the scale is just a guide and needs tweaking my circulation is 800lts per hour
So that's 14x less media so I think that bits ok

Thanks I will just keep a eye on it for the next few days
