I see so many topics and posts asking "What sex is my krib?" So here's a helpful guide for anyone

Caudal = Tail

Common Name: Kribensis, Purple Cichlid.
Latin Name: Pelvicachromis Pulcher.

Max Size: Generally 4" for males 3-3.5" for females.

Sexing:
Males are noticeably longer and slimmer with elongated fins and, in mature males, a diamond shaped tail. A males Dorsal fins starts off silvery-white and turns yellowy-gold about halfway along. Male generally have none or less "eye spots" on their dorsal than a female but they do have a large one on their Caudal fin along with a redish-gold lining to the top of teir Caudal fin. Some good quality mature males will have blue-ish purple colouring to their anal fin and near their Caudal fin. Some males may have a slightly pink belly but it will never be as round as the females.

Females are noticeably more rotund in the belly area and usually once mature have a bright red-purple belly(hence the name, Purple Cichlid) with bright yellow cheeks and maybe some blue-ish purple colouring to their anal fin. Their Dorsal and Caudal fin are both yellowy-gold in colour and the tail is always round and smooth edged in females. Some good quality females will have a gold "dusting" above their black Lateral stripe, but not all. Do not count on this. Females will have 2-3 "eye spots" on their dorsal fin which males will lack/only have 1 of.

Pictures: These are my very own Pelvicachromis Pulcher. My breeding pair.
