Tell us all about your special lil guys/gals. What they like, what they do, funny things about them.. etc etc. Just anything you want to share with the rest of us!

Afia my female is SUPER hyper and totally unafraid of me. Surprisingly she was like that when I first got her. She is also a huge piggy! I swear she begs for food whenever she sees me eating something. She's mistaken my finger for food quite a few times heh.
Afia also loves flirting & flaring through the divider at Raj. When I first got them both.. she would not explore her side of the tank for nothing. She always wanted to be right beside that divider watching Raj. Now, she'll get her flirt on a little bit then do her own thing heh. And surprisingly, she's made herself a couple of very small bubblenests!

Raj my CT male is a bit more shy when it comes to me. He's just as much of a piggy as Afia though! He won't take anything directly off of my finger, but he's getting there slowly :) He LOVES watching the computer monitor while I'm surfing the net or playing games. His favorite though is exploring his side of the tank. He just loves squeezing through the cabomba 'leaves' and watching the bubbles from the airstone. Speaking of bubbles though, he's never made himself a bubblenest. I guess he figures that the airstone makes bubbles well enough so he doesn't have to :p hehe

Caine my newest pretty boy is.. I dunno.. I get the impression that he's just a serious type as silly as that sounds *nodnod*. He's definitely not as hyper as Raj or Afia. He seems very happy though! He really loves exploring his little 3 gallon tank and swimming inbetween the anubias plant leaves. He's made himself 2 little bubblenests so far :) I actually got to watch him creating his 2nd one which was very exciting!
Whenever I go to feed him... he's usually on the other side of his tank, so I'll lightly tap the glass with my fingernail and he'll come swimming up flaring away at me. I like to think he's just coming to say hello and getting excited b/c he knows it's feeding time :) When he flares it always cracks me up though. I swear every time he does it reminds me of ferengis from Star Trek lol. If you're not familiar with it, look it up on google. Since he's a peach color, when he flares his gills look like ears so yeah.. it just cracks me up hehe.

chronilogical order of when i got them.

shadow:
he's doing great. he loves flaring at pacific and the two of them have their own little "flare offs". he's building huge bubble nests - i cant wait to find him a little girl. i also got him a new little purple dragon he loves to hide behind. he's not nearly as shy as he was when i got him, but swims forward to "challenge" pacific through their tanks. its so funny to watch. he loves playing peek-a-boo, too. there aren't any plants in his tank as they were causing insane algae growth.

^peek-a-boo!^

pacific:
still the little show off. i can't get a picture of him not flaring, as anytime he sees the camera, he's as big as he can get, swimming around to look as flashy as he can. my 20 gallon's in the midst of "hermie cleaning" so that can become my breeding tank - he's got a little girlfriend now :hyper: . i can't wait to breed them and see what their babies look like. if anyone's interested, let me know!

aladdin:
his tail is growing in soooooo nicely. i'm excited for this boy, too. i just might have to breed him to my little CT girl after pacific. i haven't decided about that yet. here's some before-and-now pictures.

^now^
you can really see how much his tail's growing in. (the first doesn't have the flash on, the second does. the second shows his true colors more.) that picture was taken about a week ago and it's even longer now!

dolce:
she's the "queen of the girls". she keeps everyone in line, a little nip when it's needed. otherwise, all the girls are getting along great. she swims up to see me anytime i walk by, swimming up and down and following my finger. she's a little sweetie. her name means "sweet" (musical term).

cadence:
my little, little girl. she's my only girl (at the moment) in my 10g community. she rules them all but there's no fighting. everyone gets along great. she's still just as sweet as she originally was, following me around as much as she can and chasing my finger across the glass. she's going to be the one i breed pacific with (she's my only CT girl, the rest are VTs) and possibly aladdin :hyper:

vivace and melody:
vivace is a solid red with some green scales throughout her body while melody is more of a light red/pink/white body - it's hard to tell which - with red fins. melody's a bit smaller than vivace as well. they're both so silly, melody sleeps underneath all the marbles (it's my ex-fry tank).

sorry if the pics don't work, i'm at school and i just copied, pasted and edited one of my older posts. i may be getting another boy soon, too! :hyper:

Our bettas are all mad.

Steve Irwin thinks he is a cory. He's our blue/red veiltail. He's also addicted to emails and enjoys watching my fish screensaver.

Khan likes to bite things. A lot. He's a pinky/red combtail. He also likes dinosaurs.

Our girls are mad too.
Jasmine is huge. She chases everything and tried to eat a pair of julii corydoras.
Belle gets chased a lot. She lies down on the sand at the bottom to go to the loo.
These two are both turquoise. Except Jasmine is a lot bigger.
Tinkerbell thinks everyone is getting something that she is entitled to. Hence why she tries to get into the breeding net with the teeny julii corys we put in there to stop Jasmine eating them. He's nosy and likes to read forum posts. But if he's uninterested by the content he swims away.

Thats where we have videos of all our fish. Including our mad bettas. The girls can be seen in the bubblenest video.

Easley

I've had Easley for a little over a month now. He's got the longest fins I think I've ever seen on a VT. He's mostly green with hints of blue and red in his tail, but when he moves his body a certain way-he look mostly blue. He's the most colorful betta I've ever owned. He likes to swim up and down the glass, up and down, and up and....my goodness he wears me out. He follows me around the room. If I go to one side of the room his follows if I go to the other...he follows. He never blows huge bubblenest, but he does always blow a single line of bubbles all the way around the bowl. He also likes to look through magazines with me-he follows the pages as I turn them. He also likes to blow up at all of his food. Every time I drop a piece of food in he backs away from it-FLARES huge- then attacks it!!

Rehab

Rehab was a rescue. I got him almost 2 weeks ago. Most of his fins are missing so I'm not sure if he's a CT or a VT. I have a feeling he'll be a CT once they grow back. He's a blusish-purple with hints of red in his tail. He swims like a bumblebee flies. Sharp motions. His little fins are always working over time. He jumps out of the water to try to get his food. He eats so loud you can hear him chewing. He's really sweet though. I don't see how anyone can mistreat a betta.

:fish:

Haha, I can't it will take too long    I don't think anybody wants to read like 2 pages worth of stuff about my bettas, lol, too much reading (not to mention too much typing)

Galan is my first and only betta, and is super active. He likes 'hunting', and treats food as a real prey. Coming up slowly from below, and then as in surprise..... attack! Now that I know him better, I think I shold have called him 'peacock' as he likes to show off and often poses for me. I am not using a mirror, but he still flares, but only with his finns, not his gills. That he saves for special occasions.

Here are some pictures of him:

i already have a thread for this boy, but for you who haven't seen it...here you go.

so i got a new guy for my birthday. no flaming about his tank please - i did not pick it!
so since i have amazing friends (who dont know much about fish but hey) i got a new little man for my birthday. he's in a lavaquarium - rather small and he didnt like the airstone, so that was taken out once i saw him, pointing out he was struggling, but unless he shows he's stressed (he seems to be quite happy at the moment) i'll leave him in there.

now as for my friends, kelly was talking to sammi about computer monitors and decided she wanted to nickname someone monitor, but she couldn't think of anybody who didnt have a nickname (i tell her i'm too cool for a nickname) so they teamed up and bought me this fish and a tank and named him monitor. the card said "change his name and you die by guillotine"

Darby is my first fish and quite the little charmer. Although I prefer crowntails and completely different coloring in Bettas, I knew I couldn't pick a different fish when I first "met" him at the LFS.
I was trailing my finger in front of the tall plastic containers the store kept their Bettas in, and Darby was by far the most interested and active. He swam straight up to my finger, and then followed it all around his little "tank". While I gawked at the crowntails, he continued following me around whenever I moved, so I just knew he was the one.

He's very curious and has already accustomed to his feeding regime. Once in the morning and once at night, when he sees me in front of his tank, he'll get so excited! He swims back and forth and up and down and just acts like a total dork. I've likened it to having a puppy waiting to be fed, bouncing from foot to foot.
He loves his little silk plants and often inspects the little center of them, seeming to wonder if there's any food in there. I never knew fish could "watch" before, but he really looks at things in his tank.
Since having him for a couple of weeks now, his color is really starting to change. He's sort of purple and maroon now and he's just such a sweetie. I never knew fish could be so personable.

During water changes, he stays in his tank and swims back and forth, watching everything I do and getting in the way.
Lately he seems to have developed a fascination with his gravel, staring at it with one little fishy-eye, as if waiting (and daring!) it to move.
I don't think he's built any bubble nests, but he still seems rather young, so hopefully someday soon.
