There is a thing called team speak that allows you to speak online. what you can do is set it up and it allows lots of people to speak online at once. it could be a good system that will allow people to talk to each other and explain things.

What do you think??

Isn't that essentially what Live Chat is? Or am I missing something....? -_-

yea it is a chat but it is not a msn type thing that people can just brows into. it is only for people that have the rights to come into it. also with in the server you can make areas that are specific to differant subjects. and it is only administrated by us.

this is designed for gamers so it isnt poorly made.

and the quality is 1000% better than msn.

with msn you cant get a good group of people to goin in. with this any one that is a member you get phone quality connection and as many people you and join in

just look in google and find a open site and go in and try it.

this site does have a live chat that is hosted through IRC all ya gotta do is click on the live chat link at the top of the page.

Teamspeak is audio. Might be an iteresting idea and something for someone to research. SH

I've spent a lot of time looking after a Ventrilo server which is the same thing (but better IMO) as Teamspeak, which I have also used. Can't say I'm 100% convinced it's nessecary, but I'm happy to offer any help needed in setting this up. What might be better would be skype addresses so a conversation could be arranged in advance (1-2-1 or groups) rather than just having to jump on a random server which is actually quite difficult to have a decent conversation on as everyone ends up trying to talk at once.

well i dont mind what it is but the skype idea is a bit more difficult as you have to pre arrange settings and everyone including newbies would also need to know everyones settigns.

When you stated that jumping on a server where every one would like to chat at the came time well in the Team Speak you can setup different channels in the admin console. this means as with this forum you can set up seperate fish, diy, salt or freash water channels. people could then choose which channel they want. If it got to busy in one channel you could then move your group of people into the relitive channel.

Also you can make it a members only site. e.g. anyone who is registered in the forum can use it. People who are not members of the forum cant or you make it that they log in as guest until a moderator enroles them as a member.

Sounds almost exactly the same as what you can do on our java module :dunno: You can create infinite channels, its just that it's never busy enough to bother.

yea i have always used the java before but the problem with the java is that it doesnt always work on all computers and with newer versions of java runtime it can conflict with windows and antivirus.

I do se his point and i think it could be something for William to look in to Teamspeak is very good and user freindly and not at all expensive really and i think you can get them for alot of people.

Sounds kind of like the yahoo chatrooms, people can type as well as speak to each other. I used to spend some time on them a few years ago and they were always good fun apart from the occassional idiot (I'd hate to think how downhill they may have gone these days though lol I haven't been on there in quite a while). You'd think it would be a pain if too many people were talking all at once but it's not really once you get used to it and can actually be pretty funny at times. There is always the option to squelch everybody else if you are being helped by someone as well, or set up a private room.

You have to buy teamspeak servers, or you can make them for free, but they are deleted when main person leaves, and everytime you make a different one the IP changes. They don't cost much though I don't think. It would be a good idea, you can have lots of different rooms, basically it's an online forum if you get me, except you speak. Like you could have a section for cycling and stuff, emergencies. IMO, for this website I would like it, but it would be somewhat pointless.
I use teamspeak all the time because I play a game called counterstrike, now I won't go off-topic, but if you want to know any more about teamspeak or counterstrike, feel free to PM me.
You can alter the settings so people need permission to speak granted by a moderator, you can permanantly ban people, you also need a lengthy IP to join the server to, there isn't a list to choose it from. So the chances of idiots is low, so you won't get many, if any at all.

Yes, as neal says, teamspeak isnt free to run. it is free to use the client software to connect to the server (i us it everyday for gaming, it is a top notch program)

The servers dont cost much to run. my gaming clan hires out a section of another persons dedicated server. I will ask tommorow how much it costs the guy who pays for it. good idea tho fozzy, teamspeak would be awsome to use!

If my PC wasnt in my tiny bedroom (ive seen bigger fish tanks...) and didnt hum as loud as it does, i would gladly have hosted a server 24/7, because i have unlimited internet, and a nice fast 4mb cable line ;)

Plus, dont think dad would appreciate the elctricity bills!
