Hello out there. New to the forums, just poking around and I love the amount of information on here.

I had fish tanks as a kid and always loved them, but just started one up again as an adult. A lot more knowledge now than I had then. I started the tank up a couple months ago now using zebra daino's for the cycling process (I didn't know anything about the fishless cycle then, wish I had done it that way). The tank just finished cycling and I am starting to slowly populate it.

I tossed in a male betta as well as a CAE which I am, based on reading this forum, now realizing is likely a bad idea (wonder if the store would take it back).

I have a 40 gal tank currently with just the betta, cae, and 5 zebra daino's left in it. Assuming I get rid of the CAE there is plenty of room left. I originally wanted to mix some angel's in there, but preliminary reading seems to indicate this is a bad plan, which is a bit sad.

The betta obviously adds a lot of restrictions into what I can put in there so I am just starting to figure out what all I can mix in. He is a very pretty fish that is primarily white with hints of purple and pale blues. The wife and daughter love him though refuse to recognize it as anything other than a girl.

I also just have fake plants in there right now but am considering starting to introduce live plants over the next few months (I know nothing on the topic of live plants so not going there quite yet).

Not sure what else to say. Very young tank and really excited about populating it now that the cycle is complete.

Hey and Welcome!! :hi:

Out of interest, what is a CAE?? (sorry, i'm relatively new to fishkeeping)

And in my eyes, you should never let 1 fish stop you from stocking how you want. I'd suggest you pick up a cheap 20-30 litre tank (or more), cycle it quickly by using some mature filter media from your 40gal, and then stock your 40gal how you want to, with angels and other stunning fish.

Chinese algea eater....they apparently get quite large and aggressive...

I may expand to additional tanks later but I love fish...it's not a big loss having to go with other fish since I have always loved bettas

Fair enough.

I unfortunately know nothing about CAE's
