Hello everyone,

For those of you who use Tap Water Conditioners...

What brand do you use?

What seems to work the best for you?

What is the best bang for your buck?

Recently I have been trying to cut the cost of my fish expenses as I have now running 4 tanks and need to save money wherever possible. Currently I am using Aqua Plus Tap Water Conditioner. It removes both Chlorine and Chloramine. I purchase the 16 oz bottle for about $11 and lasts me a long time.

Is there anything better out there I should be using? And I mean better as it still works and is cheaper.

Thanks to all who reply!.

I use Aquasafe (made by Tetra, comes in a yellow bottle) works good for me but I don't know if it's the cheapest or not...

yeah i use AquaSafe too; used to use another type of water conditioner before(can't remember the brand name though) but it irretated my m.black mollys skin every time i used it, but AquaSafe does not.
I dunno about cheap though- most dechorinators are not very expensive, i would look for ones that are good but not nesarsarily cheap- its the fish's health we are talking about here anyway.

In my opinion, StressCoat is the best, hands down.
It is a bit more expensive, I guess, but the benefits are great.
It gives an extra bit of slime to the fish that helps promote health and healing.

I just checked - the last bottle I got was only 4 oz, and believe it's cost was about 5$.. I really, REALLY like it though.

I use Science Products Aquarium Science Complete Water Treatment and Conditioner.. it removes Chlorine, Chloramine, Ammonia, and heavy metals. I has Vitamin B, aloe vera, PVP's (I have no idea what they are) and electrolytes for the fish's health.

It's always worked beautifully for me and is around the $10 mark. :D

I know it's already been mentioned, but although buying 'bargain' or cheap products seems like a great money saver at the time, all the meds you'll have to buy will be double the cost.... my opinion? Find something that works for you, and stick with it!

I have found that the best value for money is Tap water conditioner (imaginative name) by Aquarium phamaceuticals. a 4oz bottle treats 2400 gallons; @ £6.99 a bottle that works out at £0.0029 per gallon or to put it anotherway less than 3 pence per 10 gallons.

I have always used Aquasafe. I usually buy the 16oz online for 5.99 with shipping it totals about $12. Since my present bottle is almost done, i picked up 16oz Stress Coat for $13 (heard alot of people here use it and decided to try). I havent used it yet though. Thats around what you'll pay for that size of bottle for most conditioners anyway.

Thats the one I use Wolf. Its like a drop per gallon, in AUD it is $10 a bottle which lasts forever. It removes chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals.

If you are looking at saving money, don't do it on things like water conditioners, or food for that matter. And don't buy food in bulk, it will go stale and make your fish sick.

i use stress coat aswell and have had no problems with it :)

i use aquaplus too
as for the big al's brand, i find it to be cheaper than aquaplus if i go to big al's, but if i go to another store, the aquaplus is the same price as big al's...

i also use stresscoat for my bettas for a reaosn i could not explain... same price as aquaplus

Brita water filter + Stress Coat :)
have you had any problems using water via a brita filter?
I'm sure I read somewhere that it takes too many minerals
from the water to be any good for keeping fish, kinda like using distilled water
