I have a germam blue ram in my 20 gallon, i want to add some driftwood but heard that it will leech tannins. I read taht tannins are good for some fish and bad for others. I was wondering what tannins would do to my tank, and if it is ok to add the driftwood( i will get it from my LFS).

Tannins will stain the water a pale brown; a bit like weak tea (not milky tea, obviously!) and may slightly soften and acidify it, but that's all perfect for rams :good:

Water changes are activated carbon filter inserts will clear the water up after some time anyways if you dont want it. Or really clean the wood and get as much of the tannins out before it goes in the tank

i know, but i dont have the time to wait 2 months for the tannins to go out

I am currently doing that with a firemouth, convict, and blue acara and they don't seem to be bothered by it. (I soaked mine for about 4-5 days before hand). Rams should be alright too.
