Tanks a lot's Super Duper African Cichlid Trap
Are you tired of chasing fish around the tank with a crappy little net? Then why not try Tanks a lot's Super Duper African Cichlid Trap, its super affordable and easy to make. If you have hours to spare and don’t have a girlfriend “like myself” then this is for you!
All you need is a sheet of 3mm perspecs, a non toxic glue gun , a saw (parent supervision may be required) and a scribe to mark the plastic before you cut and an hour of your time.
You will need to cut 9 piece of perspecs, like so.
A bottom, top, two sides, a rear piece, two trap doors, two brackets and three plastic strips for hinges (milk bottle or something like it).
Once all the pieces are cut you can bend the perspecs to form the brackets and the inwards slanting trap doors. Careful of your fingers as flames are hot.
Then glue it all together to form a trap box like so, the door to retrieve the trapped fish can be opened by removing the elastic band from one side. Note the plastic hinges and elastic band.
Next it is time to give the trap a good clean, over and over and over, just to make sure.
Now it’s time to catch some fish. Bait the box like you would a lobster pot then play the waiting game, once the fish goes in it is open season. I had four of my fish in the box within 15 minutes. Better than fifteen minutes wasted with a net!!!
This trap won’t catch all your fish, but its fun none the less. Especially when you have loads of time on your hands and nothing to do with it. If anyone would like dimensions please don’t hesitate to PM me.
