EDIT: So I've decided on two to four more corydoras and some male guppies or tetras. My question is how many guppies/tetras can I add to the tank safely? Thank you, much appreciated.

So some background for you all.

7 months ago I purchased, with little information about fishkeeping, a goldfish, a 10 gallon tank, and two corydoras aeneus albino. It was a mistake, as I learned, but I was determined to take care of them well. I went through everything peacefully, until three or four months ago... As you can guess, the goldfish became a problem. It bit off one of the cory's pectoral fins! So immediately I moved them to the only tank available, a 2.5 gallon. I know, I know, it was a terrible thing to put them in, but it was one of my betta's tanks (who had to be housed temporarily in a 1 gallon) and all I had. But I kept everyone's water happy. Everyone is healthy and good.

I was finally able to upgrade the corys' tank to a 10 gallon. I wanted, originally, to get a school- four more aeneus, that is, because I love cories. But the tank's middle and top looks so empty! So I was wondering what would be best to stock the tank with? I'll probably get at least 1 more cory, to round it out to more than the lonely pair... and still have room for something else. What is a small peaceful fish I could fill the rest of my tank with? I want to make it a planted, eventually, if that's any help.

for a 10 gallon fishtank you can probably have 6 cory's (recomended that they stay in groups of atleast 6) and some small tetras maybe 6 smaller ones like neons, although they are very fragile, but they look great in a smaller tank even a larger one. somthing arount that you have to do your research on things and figure out what will work best ofr you in your tank!

:D caboose :D

If your water is soft you could plant it heavily and keep a large school of tiny tetras or rasboras in there. Or a male peacock goby with a harem of females. Or a sparkling gourami trio and some pygmy corys- in fact, I don't think they're fussy about water params.

If your water is hard, you could make a Tanganyikan biotope with shelldwellers. Or keep some tiny livebearers- male guppier or endlers or heterandria formosa.

i wouldn't put a group of 'normal' sized cories in a 10g tbh, i think it's a little small.

i'd either try for a slightly larger tank (15-20g should do) or trade your cories in for one of the 3 pgymy species.

i've got a 9.5 g and i've just got a small group of microrasbora in there who will shortly be joined by 6 pymy cories.

woah! marbles for the substrate with corries?! not a good idea, it may end up damaging their barbles! Try a finer substrate or sand

That picture was taken ages ago, they're in a bare bottom for now until I can pick up some substrate to plant my tank. :)

Thank you for all the suggestions! My water isn't soft, but it's not that hard either, don't remember the specs. I'm thinking male guppies would be good. Still deciding though, I'll tell you what I get. :)

Have a nice day!
