Have a 75 gallon tank with one baby oscar (2 inches). My local store just got in some beautiful electric blue Jack Dempsey's that are the same size. Can I purchase 1 of these fish to keep with my oscar? The oscar has been in the tank only 2 days.

Thanks
Ray

If you want to do it then do it now, dont wait for the oscar to claim the tank, 55g is min for one oscar a 75g is good for a blue jack and a oscar.

PS: With blue depsys be aware they do not live to long.

sounds good

and as Vip said its good that theyre small so the oscar can claim his terrirtory while growing up with the JD,

btw why not add a pleco to make the tank look more active

Thanks Guys,

I will probably add the pleco today also.

Are there an non cichlid types that I can add also at this time, larger tiger barbs perhaps?

Thanks

How long would the blue jack live? Several years or are we talking months? It is fairly expensive ($25 US) so I don't want to buy one if it will die in 9 months.

Thanks Again!

only about 4 years and they dont get to big as well, they max out at about 4-5" though i have seen some double that size but its rare.

Im probaly to late but blue JD's arnt agressive like the normal JDs so he will most likely get bullied by the oscar. Ive heard of people keeping them with guamis and angel fish sucessfully :dunno:
