I would like to gently reduce my tank water to ph 7 over a period of weeks. Would mixing filtered water with my tap water during water changes thus reducing the ph over time be safe for the fish. I have been told that a neutral Ph will guarantee a 50/50 mix of male/female babies with breeding kribensis.

Tank water stats KH=8dH GH=12dH Ph=7.75. Tap water stats KH=9dH GH=13dH Ph=8. I have filtered water GH=3dH KH=2dH Ph=5.

Changing the pH from 8.0 from the tap (7.75 in the tank) to 7.0 may be difficult. Your KH isn't terribly high but you definitely have buffering capacity. I'm sure it could be done but I'm definitely no expert on how to do it. It may be difficult to do it without causing too many swings. You may also want to post in the Cichlids section also. They can either confirm or debunk what you had heard about the pH having an effect on the sex of the fry.
