I have set up my new 95g tank today. I already have a 10g running with 4 plattys and 5 guppies. My external filter is already ful with water now so to add the media would be quite hard i guess. When i transfer my fish, is there any way i can just put the filter media and/or some of the gravel in some kind of bag in the new tank will this help and make it still be okay with these fish and quickly cycle my new tank? Sorry for the noob questions

The media will need to be placed directly into the new filters bio-compartment. Else carry out a complete fishless cycle with a squeeze or 2 to speed it up.

What filter do you have on the 10 gallon, if its possible to put it into the new tank you can transfer the fish into the new tank with the old filter and then let the new filter establish itself. This will only work if the bioload on the filter does not increase rapidly. So dont add a load of new fish all at once

Its just a larger volume of water with the same amount of fish waste that was being produced in your 10 gallon.

My 10g is a tropiquarium 55 so the filter is all wired into the hood so would be quite awkward to transfer. I will be adding my second external filter at the same time as adding the fish. Its is a rena filstar XP3. Which tray should i put the medium in? The bottom 1 has a sponge, middle one has some things that look like dog biscuits and the top one is empty?? What should be in the top one? cheers

The top one can be used for activated carbon (after using medication or removing tannins form the water) or more biomedia (dog biscuits).

I would put the original media in the bottom, the new sponge above and then the biomedia in the top one.

Might be worth concidering instead of the Rena, for the sake of 150lph you'll save your £25 :) Thats enough for a 1000lph internal ;)

I got the 2 rena's and an aqua one filter with my tank when i bought it so thats why i'm using them. lol. Should have it all up and running today hopefuly.
