How's everyone's tank temperatures with this silly heat?!!
What you all doing to keep the temperature down to a safe level?

silly heat in north carolina its like doomsday with flooding everywhere. could float ice cubes during a water change

My husband LOVES air conditioning so he keeps every room in the house at 70 degrees so there is no fluctuating in the tanks. I can't stand it, I am cold all the time. Good for my fish though I guess.

I cant seem to get my tank below 27. Not good. Iv taken half the hood off to help evaporation. As long as it dont go above 27 I dont tend to worry too much

I've lost a few fry with the heat affecting the tanks, but generally the stone walls of the house are holding me at around 26C max, so we're surviving.

My tanks are in a very bad situation, one is next to the window and suffering a 31-32 degrees, the other 4 at around 30 except one that is holding on to 29. I found my betta dead today, one of my male guppies is gone missing and one of my forktail rainbows is sick floating belly up but trying to swim. And that's with me doing cold water changes but the temps go back up in hours.

I have a fan placed a couple feet from my tanks blowing on them.  I am out in Colorado and we have been having 100 degree days out here for a while now.  I had to bring my two small tanks into the same room as my 120 gal. since I don't have central A/C I am using a portable unit that only cools a small area.

Oh snazy im really sorry for your loss. Its so annoyingly hard to keep the temp under control in these weather condition. Have you tried filling up bottles with water, freezing them and then floating them in the tank?

I had my external sat in a bucket as it was leaking slightly (my fault on the seal), but filling that with ice below the pump head level has helped one of my tanks.

Thats actually a great idea. However it wont work for me as I have a fx5 which is much bigger than most buckets. Iv taken the hood completely off now and switched off all heaters to see if that makes a difference. It shouldnt as the heater should only switch on when the water temp drops below Xc. But you never know, worth a try.
Predictive txt on my phone does my head in lol

Thanks Slim. That gives me one more tank to rescape at least.
I've been also putting icecubes in ziplock bags and they melt in seconds but I am not around all the time and the temperatures shoot back up pretty fast. I think all I can do is just a temporary relief. I just read that keeping the lids opened also helps so done that too.

Sorry about your loss Snazy, that's a nightmare.

My tank is also next to the window and it is mostly stable at 27°C (usually 25).  If it creeps up to 28 then I've got several bottles of frozen water in the freezer ready to float.  In your case I would follow Jbram and direct some fans at the tanks as well.  I hope your rainbowfish pulls through!

my guppy looks like it has a problem with its swimming today so I treated him and most likely will get a cold bottle and let it lower the tanks temperature

That's a shame for you folks.  I have central A/C, so my tanks are just fine.  The floating bottle of ice is probably the best solution I've seen... Keep a few in the freezer and rotate them as needed during the heat of the day.

We have been very fortunate on my side of the UK in that, being on the coast, we have had a lot of cloud which has kept the temperatures down a tad.
Our fish tank is in a north east facing living room and out of direct sunlight. So apart from one day which saw the tank temp rise one degree fahrenheit above normal, we have not had a problem.

For the rest of you, particularly Snazy who has suffered losses, you do have my sympathy - it can't be great trying to keep the tank temps down so that the fish survive.

Regards

David
