Hi

I bought 3 cardinal tetra 16 days ago to start a fish in cycle in my 28L tank.
4 days after buying fish i find out guy at work keeps fish and he brings me in some media.
Tonight i have checked levels and am showing 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite. Nitrate is between 40-80 (use API test kit and i struggle to see colour difference between the 2 colours)!
I have been doing daily water changes as per the instructions on this site.

I assume i am getting there, just need to keep these kind of levels for a week?

Thanks to everyone for all advice provided.

Yep; once you've seen no ammonia or nitrite for a week, without having to change any water, then you'll know you're cycled :good:

Have you tested your tap water for nitrate? 40-80ppm isn't terribly high, but it would be nice if you could get down a bit.

And definitely thank the guy at work that shared media with you! Major score. :good:
